Hatchie

Under the name Hatchie, Harriette Pilbeam has emerged from Brisbane with a songwriting approach situated between dream pop, shoegaze and indie pop, creating songs with hazy guitars, clear melodies and a vocal approach that is often soft yet direct. Before her solo project, Hatchie played in the Australian bands Go Violets and Babaganouj — a period on Brisbane’s independent scene that helps explain the continuity of her development. Hatchie launched her solo career in 2017 with the singles “Try” and then “Sure”, which quickly established an aesthetic where misty textures meet straightforward pop. The EP Sugar & Spice was released in 2018, followed by the albums Keepsake (2019), Giving the World Away (2022) and Liquorice (2025). Across these records Hatchie has broadened her palette, incorporating more pop choruses, stronger rhythms and brighter arrangements while retaining the shoegaze legacy of her beginnings. Her trajectory also includes collaborations and appearances with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, George Clanton, Wild Nothing and GUM, and a Robin Guthrie remix of “Sure” accompanied her first steps outside Australia.
