1-800 GIRLS

Under the alias 1-800 GIRLS, Jake Stewart develops an electronic music project rooted in the British scene, at the crossroads of melodic house, UK bass, leftfield electronica, electro and IDM. 1-800 GIRLS’ sound is built on a balance of club energy, sensitive textures and indie/alternative references, with productions that favour contrasts between bright melodic lines, rawer rhythms and atmospheres tinged with nostalgia. Over the course of his career, 1-800 GIRLS has released tracks on outlets such as All My Thoughts, Domino and Universal, while circulating his music in contexts as much for listening as for the dancefloor. His work as a DJ extends this open approach, with selections that navigate between euphoric house, British bass music and more oblique electronic forms. Having held residencies on Balamii Radio and SWU.FM, 1-800 GIRLS has also become part of a network of clubs and platforms dedicated to contemporary electronic music, notably through a stint at HÖR Berlin. Jake Stewart thus steers 1-800 GIRLS in a register where emotion, rhythmic tension and a taste for stylistic movement occupy a central place.
