Octo Octa

Under the name Octo Octa, Maya Bouldry-Morrison has built, since the early 2010s, a trajectory rooted in American club scenes, between New Hampshire, where she grew up, and Brooklyn, where the project took shape. Octo Octa emerged on the 100% Silk label with music that crosses house, electro and IDM, driven by supple rhythms, hazy pads and a frequently introspective melodic sense. This early period is particularly evident on Between Two Selves (2013) and Where Are We Going? (2014), before evolving toward a more direct, dancefloor-oriented writing nourished by deep house, acid house, breakbeats and rave aesthetics. With Resonant Body (2019), Octo Octa more clearly ties club energy to an autobiographical dimension. Her artistic path regularly intersects with Eris Drew’s — in DJ sets, productions and through the T4T LUV NRG label, embedded in contemporary house and queer cultures. In clubs as well as at festivals, Octo Octa develops a sound that is fluid, warm and rhythmically dense, without being confined to a single tradition of electronic music.
