Lola Young
Embedded in London’s music scene, Lola Young crafts songwriting rooted in soul and contemporary R&B, blended with stripped-back pop that at times carries shades of jazz and hip-hop. Born and raised in South London, she began writing early, building a repertoire that moved between piano ballads and more rhythm-driven cuts before performing in small venues across the capital. Spotted first by independent labels and later by major players in the UK, Young released a series of singles that established her husky vocal signature and a marked taste for intimate storytelling. Her discography then coalesced around the EPs Intro (2019), Renaissance (2020) and After Midnight (2021), which explore different facets of the same artistic world, from minimalist soul to productions closer to alternative pop. In parallel, she appeared on several soundtracks and, in 2021, recorded a cover of Together in Electric Dreams, broadening her audience beyond specialist circles. On stage, Young tours mainly in the UK and Europe with a full-band setup, delivering shows that extend the pared-back aesthetic of her recordings and foreground her vocal delivery. The next step comes with her debut full-length, This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway (2024), where she expands into more narrative writing while remaining anchored in a modern, introspective-leaning soul.
