DJ Boring

Under the name DJ Boring, Australian Tristan Hallis has been developing since the mid-2010s a project focused on club culture and its movements between house, breakbeat, techno and rave heritage. Attention first fell on DJ Boring with 'Winona' in 2016, a track that placed him within a moment marked by the return of a more hazy, melodic house—though it did not confine him to that sound. Over his releases and sets, DJ Boring has broadened his palette, where 4/4 rhythms sit alongside more broken constructions, with a consistent taste for warm textures, airy pads and clear nods to 1990s and 2000s dance music. His DJ activity accompanies this evolution, with selections that blend older tracks and recent productions in both club and festival contexts. His trajectory also includes widely broadcast formats—most notably an Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 and an appearance on Boiler Room—which have helped document his practice between production and performance.
