Gerd Janson

Emerging from the Frankfurt and Offenbach scene in Germany, Gerd Janson has, since the 1990s, built a career at the intersection of DJing, production and label work. A long‑time resident of Robert Johnson — a central club in the Rhine‑Main area — he also runs Running Back, a project defined by a broad concept of club music spanning house, disco, techno and electro with balearic, boogie and new beat affinities. His sets and productions favour crisp rhythms, supple basslines, historical dance references and a constant flow between straightforward tracks, edits and more oblique selections. Alongside releases under his own name, Janson has developed numerous collaborations, notably with Phillip Lauer in Tuff City Kids, which extends his interest in playful, physical club‑oriented electronic music informed by pop culture. Over the years he has also delivered many remixes and compilations while remaining closely tied to the European scenes where classic house, contemporary disco and open‑ended techno intersect.
