Yves Tumor

Under the name Yves Tumor, American artist Sean Lee Bowie, born in Miami and raised in Knoxville (Tennessee), has been developing since the early 2010s a body of work at the intersection of experimental music, rock and psychedelic soul. After initially producing rather electronic and noise-oriented pieces within the underground scene, Yves Tumor released When Man Fails You in 2015 and Serpent Music in 2016, albums dominated by sound collages, dark ambient and industrial textures. Signing to PAN and later to Warp signalled a shift toward more frontal, song-based forms: Safe in the Hands of Love (2018) and Heaven to a Tortured Mind (2020) blend pop structures, saturated rock and funk and R&B influences within an aesthetic still marked by experimentation. Based subsequently in Turin, Yves Tumor continued this hybrid trajectory with the mini-album The Asymptotical World (2021) and Praise a Lord Who Chews but Which Does Not Consume; (Or Simply, Hot Between Worlds) (2023), working a dense, rhythmically unstable sound often carried by a voice treated as an instrument among others. On stage, Yves Tumor moves between clubs devoted to electronic music and rock festivals, regularly surrounding themself with a band to emphasize the physicality of performances where club culture, noise inheritances and glam references intersect. Occasional collaborations with Mykki Blanco or Kelsey Lu place Yves Tumor within an international network of musicians exploring the frictional zones between pop music and the avant‑garde.
