Rosalía

Originally from Sant Cugat del Vallès in Catalonia and raised in Sant Esteve Sesrovires, Rosalía Vila Tobella, known as Rosalía, develops her work at the crossroads of flamenco heritage and contemporary urban music. Trained in flamenco singing in Barcelona, notably at ESMUC, she came to prominence on the local scene in the mid‑2010s before releasing the album 'Los Ángeles' in 2017 with guitarist and producer Raül Refree, offering a stripped‑down reinterpretation of traditional repertoires. With 'El mal querer' (2018), conceived as a concept project inspired by a medieval novel, she blends flamenco structures, R&B, and electronic pop, marking an initial opening to an international audience. From 2019 onward, various collaborations with reggaeton and Latin rap artists such as J Balvin and Ozuna anchored her in a style more defined by urban rhythms, while keeping the voice, palmas, and the tension characteristic of cante jondo at the forefront. The album 'Motomami', released in 2022, continues this shift toward a hybrid language where reggaeton, dembow, hyperpop, piano ballads, and vocal experimentation coexist in a fragmented format. The lyrics move between references to the flamenco repertoire, intimate storytelling, and questions of power and identity in the digital age, while her stage career expands across festival and arena circuits in Europe and the Americas, along with a few forays into cinema, notably in Pedro Almodóvar’s 'Dolor y gloria'.
