Yom

A clarinettist and composer born in Paris in 1980, Yom has, since the early 2000s, developed a career at the crossroads of klezmer, jazz and more contemplative forms. Initially recognized for work rooted in the heritage of Eastern European Jewish music, he gradually expanded his vocabulary toward formats in which the clarinet engages in dialogue with improvisation, more contemporary writing, and atmospheres that sometimes approach trance or meditative states. Yom’s trajectory spans multiple configurations — from solo to ensembles such as The Wonder Rabbis — and includes collaborations with musicians from other traditions, notably Wang Li. His approach relies on breath-connected playing, repetitive motifs, elongated melodic lines and a particular attention to the interplay between silence, tension and lyricism. Across his projects, Yom has been active both within jazz circuits and within world-music and multidisciplinary scenes, adopting an aesthetic that reinterprets older repertoires without treating them as fixed material.
