Valentin Ceccaldi
Born in Pithiviers in 1989, Valentin Ceccaldi develops a path at the crossroads of contemporary jazz, improvised music and writing for strings. A cellist and composer from a family of musicians, he began on the drums before turning to a bowed instrument, and he trained notably with Joëlle Léandre, Vincent Courtois and Elise Dabrowski. Ceccaldi quickly established himself on the French creative scene linked to Orléans and Paris, by multiplying collaborative projects and formats open to improvisation. He can be found in Marcel & Solange, within the Théo Ceccaldi Trio with his brother Théo Ceccaldi, in the collective Les bâtisseurs de ponts founded in 2010, as well as alongside musicians such as Médéric Collignon, Leïla Martial, Alexandra Grimal, Benjamin Duboc, Manuel Hermia or Sylvain Darrifourcq. His playing blends textural work, rhythmic tension, fragmented lyricism and a taste for shifting forms between writing and freedom. Among the recordings he participates in are Carrousel by Théo Ceccaldi in 2013, La Scala in 2014, God at the Casino in 2015, Bambú in 2017, qöölp in 2019, then Le jardin des délices with Leïla Martial in 2023. Valentin Ceccaldi thus appears in contexts where the cello moves between chamber, jazz and sonic experimentation.
