Mathias Duplessy
French composer, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist born in 1972, Mathias Duplessy has built since the 1990s a career at the crossroads of jazz, world music, film music and guitar composition. Self-taught, he began playing guitar very early before expanding his practice to other traditions, notably the morin khuur and Mongolian throat singing, which has nourished an aesthetic based on strings, acoustic timbres and exchanges between learned and popular repertoires. After working as an accompanist for several French and international artists, Mathias Duplessy developed his own projects, including Duplessy et les Trois Violons du Monde, an ensemble in which the Chinese erhu, Indian sarangi and Mongolian fiddle enter into dialogue. This work appears on albums such as Marco Polo (2010), Crazy Horse (2016) and Brothers of Strings (2020). In parallel, Mathias Duplessy composes for cinema, documentary and animation, with music written for films like Peepli Live (2010), Vie sauvage (2014) and for series such as Mouk, Les Sisters and Edmond et Lucy. His career also includes collaborations with Sophia Charaï and guitar pieces performed by Jérémy Jouve.
