The Last Internationale
Formed in New York, The Last Internationale has, since the late 2000s, developed a brand of rock rooted in blues and folk, driven by bassist Delila Paz’s voice and Edgey Pires’s guitar. The duo first made a name for themselves on New York’s activist scene with songs inspired by social struggles and protest movements, before electrifying their sound and moving toward a more direct rock informed by 1970s hard rock and the American protest song tradition. The Last Internationale recorded their debut album We Will Reign in 2014 for Epic, featuring drummer Brad Wilk and production by Brendan O’Brien, which established the band on rock circuits in the United States and Europe. After that major-label period, the group returned to an independent path and released Soul on Fire in 2019, an album that refocused their writing on rawer energy and a blend of blues riffs, folk ballads and soul-tinged choruses. On stage the duo is regularly joined by different drummers and continues to play clubs and international rock festivals, maintaining a repertoire marked by political themes, the memory of workers’ struggles and questions of social justice.
