The Virginmarys

Formed in 2006 in Macclesfield, England, The Virginmarys first built a reputation on the local scene through a series of self-released EPs and gigs in small UK clubs. Initially a trio—Ally Dickaty on vocals and guitar, Danny Dolan on drums and bassist Matt Rose—the band developed a tense alternative-rock sound combining hard rock, punk energy, bluesy riffs and traces of grunge. The 2013 album King of Conflict marked an important early milestone, followed in 2016 by Divides, produced by Gil Norton and featuring more direct, political songwriting. Largely reduced to a duo of Dickaty and Dolan, The Virginmarys continued in 2018 with Northern Sun Sessions, recorded more independently and highlighting a rawer, live-oriented approach. On stage they favour tight formats, alternating headlining runs in mid-size venues with opening slots for international rock bands across the UK, Europe and North America, while remaining firmly rooted in the alternative circuit.
