The Damn Truth
Formed in Montreal in the early 2010s, The Damn Truth develops a rock sound deeply rooted in the aesthetics of the 1970s, blending blues riffs, hard‑rock energy and psychedelic touches. The quartet brings together singer‑guitarist Lee‑La Baum, guitarist Tom Shemer, bassist PY Letellier and drummer Dave Traina—initially active on Montreal’s scene before expanding their concerts across Canada, the United States and Europe. Their debut studio album, Dear in the Headlights (2012), established the foundations of The Damn Truth’s sound, built around a pair of saturated guitars and a soul‑inflected voice. The band refined its songwriting on Devilish Folk (2016), which confirmed a preference for direct song structures and vocal harmonies. With Now or Nowhere (2021), partly recorded with producer Bob Rock, The Damn Truth retained a raw sound while broadening its palette with more melodic arrangements. The group’s live performances rely on the dynamic of a power trio slightly enriched by Baum’s rhythm guitar, with compositions that range from slow ballads to heavier formats, consciously continuing the North American blues‑rock tradition.
