The Temperance Movement
Formed in the United Kingdom in 2011 around Scottish singer Phil Campbell, guitarists Luke Potashnick and Paul Sayer, and bassist Nick Fyffe, The Temperance Movement takes the form of a blues-rock quintet with direct songwriting, shaped by British classic rock, soul inflections and a hard-rock tension without excess. The Temperance Movement first released the EP Pride in 2012, then the album The Temperance Movement in 2013, followed by White Bear in 2016 and A Deeper Cut in 2018. The members’ previous careers — including time with White Buffalo, Rooster, Ben’s Brother, Jamiroquai, Ray Davies, The Waterboys and Feeder — illuminate a sound firmly rooted in ensemble playing and guitars. In 2014 The Temperance Movement opened several shows for The Rolling Stones in Europe, then toured the United States with Blackberry Smoke in 2015. That same year Luke Potashnick left the band and was replaced by Matt White for subsequent activity. Phil Campbell announced his departure in 2020, before a UK and European tour was announced in late 2024 with Campbell and Potashnick returning alongside Paul Sayer, Nick Fyffe and Simon Lea.
