The Pigeon Detectives
Formed in 2004 in Rothwell, near Leeds in West Yorkshire, The Pigeon Detectives are part of the 2000s British indie rock wave, characterised by a tight, fast and melodic guitar sound, direct songwriting and a stage energy rooted in English rock. The band made their mark in the mid-2000s on the UK festival and gig circuit—most notably at the Reading and Leeds Festival—before moving on to UK tours and European dates. Their debut album, Wait for Me, was released in 2007, followed by Emergency in 2008, which extended that aesthetic of nervy rock and short, punchy choruses. After Up, Guards and at ’Em! in 2011, recorded in New York, they returned to a more focused approach with We Met at Sea in 2013, and continued with Broken Glances in 2017 and TV Show in 2023. Over the years the band have also shared bills with acts like Kaiser Chiefs and James, while remaining attached to the Leeds scene and a compact, straightforward indie rock format.
