Milburn

Formed in Sheffield in the early 2000s, Milburn brings together Joe Carnall, Louis Carnall, Tom Rowley and Joe Green around a direct, melodic English indie rock anchored in the North of England guitar-pop tradition. The band first drew attention on the local scene with self-produced demos and EPs, including Steel Town in 2001, then went on to play shows in venues such as The Leadmill or the Boardwalk, in a milieu shared by several Sheffield bands from the same period. After the independent releases Lipstick Lickin and Showroom, Milburn signed with Mercury and released its first album Well Well Well in 2006, followed by These Are the Facts in 2007, where the writing keeps a strong sense of chorus while giving more room to tighter arrangements and to a more front-facing band energy. Separated in 2008, Milburn resumed activities in 2016 for a reunion series in Sheffield, before continuing with new dates and a third album, Time, released in 2017. Milburn’s path also crosses with that of other Sheffield outfits, notably through the side projects of its members in Dead Sons, Reverend and the Makers, or The Book Club.
