Hard-Fi
Formed in 2003 in Staines-upon-Thames, Surrey, England, Hard‑Fi brings together Richard Archer, Ross Phillips, Kai Stephens and Steve Kemp around a British indie rock sound that blends alternative rock with soul‑ and dance‑inflected rhythms and choruses shaped by dub, ska and urban pop. Hard‑Fi emerged in the mid‑2000s with Stars of CCTV (2005), largely recorded in a former minicab office — a detail tied to the band’s raw, concrete aesthetic. Their songs often focus on English suburban life, work, weekends and social tensions, expressed in a direct, everyday writing style. The band followed with Once Upon a Time in the West (2007), broader and darker in tone, and Killer Sounds (2011), where the sound opens to pop textures and electronic pulses while remaining rooted in rock. A regular presence on the British scene across clubs, festivals and tours, Hard‑Fi has also crossed paths with artists like Mick Jones and shared bills with Green Day. After the Best of 2004–2014 compilation in 2014 and a long break, Hard‑Fi reformed in 2022, returned to the road in 2023 and released the single "Don't Go Making Plans" and an EP of the same name in 2024.
