The Futureheads

Formed in Sunderland, in the northeast of England, The Futureheads bring together Barry Hyde, Ross Millard, David 'Jaff' Craig and Dave Hyde around a nervous post-punk revival, angular indie rock and a New Wave heritage marked by vocal harmonies. The band emerged in the early 2000s with the EPs Nul Book Standard in 2002 and 1-2-3-Nul! in 2003, before their debut album, The Futureheads, released in 2004, whose rhythmic austerity and intertwined vocal lines immediately established its identity. The cover of Hounds of Love in 2005 broadened their audience, as The Futureheads toured the UK, the United States and shared the bill with Franz Ferdinand, Pixies or Foo Fighters. News and Tributes followed in 2006, then This Is Not the World in 2008, recorded after the creation of their own label, Nul Records, marking a more independent operation. The Futureheads continued with The Chaos in 2010, then took a sharp turn with Rant in 2012, an entirely a cappella album that foregrounds their work on voices and arrangements. After a pause from 2013, The Futureheads reformed in 2019 and released Powers the same year, returning to taut, melodic writing. Christmas appeared in 2025, extending a career faithful to concise, rhythm-driven, vocal pop-rock.
