Behemoth
Behemoth was formed in 1991 in Gdańsk, Poland, around vocalist-guitarist Adam “Nergal” Darski. Initially rooted in raw black metal, the band expanded its scope into a massive, theatrical blackened death. From their dark beginnings with Sventevith and Grom to the harsher turn on Satanica and Thelema.6, they forged an identity built on rhythmic density, razor-sharp riffs and a decidedly occult iconography. With Demigod (2004) and The Apostasy (2007), Behemoth established itself on the international extreme scene thanks to a more technical and monumental sound. Evangelion (2009) marked a new phase — a synthesis of power and ritual atmospheres — while The Satanist (2014), written after Nergal’s battle with illness, became a pivotal work celebrated for its cathartic force and artistic freedom. I Loved You at Your Darkest (2018) continued the exploration of a metal that is at once baroque and abrasive. On stage, Behemoth imposes an almost liturgical intensity, combining carefully staged visuals, martial drive and an incandescent presence that have shaped its status as a benchmark of contemporary extreme metal.
