Bloodbath
Born in Stockholm in 1998, Bloodbath originally brought together Anders Nyström and Jonas Renkse of Katatonia, Mikael Åkerfeldt of Opeth and Dan Swanö of Edge of Sanity around a direct, massive Swedish death metal sound deeply rooted in the old-school Scandinavian scene. Initially conceived as a side project, Bloodbath released the EP Breeding Death in 2000 and the album Resurrection Through Carnage in 2002, before gradually expanding its output with Nightmares Made Flesh in 2004 and The Fathomless Mastery in 2008. The band's history has been marked by several lineup changes, including Peter Tägtgren’s stint on vocals and Åkerfeldt’s subsequent return, while Martin Axenrot joined on drums in 2004. Since 2014, Bloodbath has centred on Nyström, Axenrot and Nick Holmes of Paradise Lost, following a course that blends classic death metal, blackened accents and darker songwriting without abandoning a brutal, compact aesthetic. The studio discography continued with Grand Morbid Funeral in 2014, The Arrow of Satan Is Drawn in 2018 and Survival of the Sickest in 2022. Active on European metal festival stages as well, Bloodbath remains linked to musicians from key Swedish and British extreme metal acts.
