The Franklin Electric
Based in Montreal, Quebec, The Franklin Electric has been developing since the early 2010s a musical world between indie folk and alternative pop, driven by Jon Matte’s voice and songwriting. The project grew out of his songs, initially in a compact lineup and later with a rotating group that accompanies The Franklin Electric in the studio and on stage. The debut album, This Is How I Let You Down, was released in 2014 and established an aesthetic combining folk structures, piano lines, subtle brass and pop melodies; Blue Ceilings followed in 2017, deepening this blend with more atmospheric textures. Across its EPs and singles, The Franklin Electric explores a register where intimate songwriting meets more rhythmic arrangements and restrained electronic touches, while maintaining a prominent role for acoustic instruments. Regularly touring Canada and Europe, The Franklin Electric moves between small venues and festivals, adapting its instrumentation and band lineup to the context, which fosters a collective dimension around Jon Matte’s compositions.
