Half Moon Run

Formed in Montreal around the turn of the 2010s, Half Moon Run occupies a place in the Canadian indie rock and folk scene, blending tight vocal harmonies, electric and acoustic guitars, subtle electronic touches and often syncopated rhythms. The trio—centered on Devon Portielje, Conner Molander and Dylan Phillips—established an introspective songwriting approach with their 2012 debut Dark Eyes, noted for its dark atmosphere and spare arrangements. They expanded to a more open palette on Sun Leads Me On (2015), exploring brighter textures and looser song structures, then broadened their sound further on A Blemish in the Great Light (2019), which foregrounded more elaborate arrangements and dynamic contrasts. Rooted in the Montreal scene but quickly international in scope, Half Moon Run has toured extensively across North America and Europe, playing both clubs and major festivals, and continued to refine their blend of alternative rock and atmospheric folk on Salt (2023).
