Matt Holubowski
Born in Hudson, Quebec, Matt Holubowski has since the mid-2010s developed a folk-writing with alternative overtones, carried by a hushed voice and arrangements that mingle acoustic guitar, indie textures, and more atmospheric impulses. Initially appearing under the name Ogen with the album Old Man in 2014, Holubowski later established himself under his own name at the moment of his appearance on La Voix, before pursuing a career centered on the live scene and recording. His second album, Solitudes, appeared in 2016 and refined a sober, melancholic and mobile aesthetic, nourished as much by travel as by an introspective approach to song. Repeatedly accompanied by director Connor Seidel, Holubowski evolved his format toward a broader pop-folk on Weird Ones in 2020, then toward more open and luminous compositions on Like Flowers on a Molten Lawn in 2023. In 2024, he extends this work with the EP Somewhere, Someone. Between English and French, Matt Holubowski moves between stripped ballads, discreet orchestrations and contemporary songwriting, in a trajectory anchored in Quebec but regularly presented on Canadian and European stages.
