AHI
Behind the name AHI is Ahkinoah Habah Izarh, a Canadian singer-songwriter born in Brampton, Ontario, and based in Toronto. His work sits in contemporary folk with an acoustic emphasis, close to roots music, featuring singer-songwriter storytelling and subtle soul inflections in his delivery. After the EP Indie Soul in 2014, AHI released We Made It Through the Wreckage in 2016, his first album that established the foundations of his musical world. In 2017 he gained visibility on the Canadian folk scene by winning the folk category of the Canadian Songwriting Competition and receiving the Stingray Rising Star Award at Folk Music Ontario. Signed later to Thirty Tigers, he followed with In Our Time (2018) and Prospect (2021). Both records earned him Juno Award nominations for Contemporary Roots Album of the Year — in 2019 for In Our Time and in 2022 for Prospect, which was also longlisted for the Polaris Music Prize that year. From the start, AHI has developed a spare, direct repertoire at the intersection of folk, roots and a soul sensibility.
