Hugo Barriol
Born in Saint-Étienne, Hugo Barriol first developed his relationship with music in childhood, before moving through Sydney where he played in the subway, then Paris, where he performed for two years in the network's corridors. This daily on-stage journey accompanies the emergence of a folk and acoustic pop songwriting, centered on guitar, voice, and songs in a direct, straightforward style. In 2015, Hugo Barriol received the Metro Music Award for Best Metro Singer, a milestone that preceded the release of his first tracks and a debut EP. His track 'On the Road' then helped circulate his name beyond the Parisian scene. With 'Yellow', his first album, Hugo Barriol continues in an English-language folk-pop vein with more constructed arrangements; the record was recorded in London with producer Ian Grimble. He then followed with 'Everywhere / Anywhere', a project nourished by a van journey between Spain, Portugal and Morocco, extending this mobile and sunny aesthetic. More recently, Hugo Barriol has begun a language shift by releasing 'Bleu', a French-language album that moves his writing toward something more direct and intimate, without breaking with melodic sobriety and the taste for pared-down songs that run through his career.
