Sports Team

Formed in 2016 between Cambridge and London, Sports Team brings together six musicians who largely passed through Cambridge University, with Oli Dewdney coming from Bristol. The English band develops an alternative rock nourished by indie rock and post-punk, powered by sharp guitars, a vocal style that is often spoken-sung, and lyrics attentive to the details of daily British life, from small towns to major roads. Sports Team began to attract notice on the London scene with the Winter Nets EP in 2018, followed by Keep Walking! in 2019, after early gigs in rooms and pubs such as the Portland Arms in Cambridge. Their first album, Deep Down Happy, appeared in 2020, followed by Gulp! in 2022, where the band refined a more tense and direct songwriting approach without abandoning its ironic observational sensibility. In 2025, Sports Team released Boys These Days, a third album that extends this approach—between band rock, dry choruses, and oblique social chronicle. On stage, Sports Team is part of the circuit of British and European clubs and festivals, with a lineup based on collective energy: Alex Rice on vocals, Rob Knaggs on guitar and vocals, Henry Young on guitar, Ben Mack on keyboards, Oli Dewdney on bass, and Al Greenwood on drums.
