Theory of a Deadman
Formed in 1999 in North Delta, British Columbia, Theory of a Deadman initially worked within a post-grunge and hard rock register, featuring direct songwriting, melodic choruses, and regular forays into alternative rock, pop rock and occasional acoustic or country touches. The quartet led by Tyler Connolly was among the first acts signed to 604 Records, the label associated with Chad Kroeger, who co-produced the debut album Theory of a Deadman in 2002. The band followed with Gasoline in 2005 and Scars & Souvenirs in 2008, a period during which Theory of a Deadman toured extensively across North American rock stages, either headlining or alongside acts such as Nickelback, Breaking Benjamin, Mötley Crüe and Alter Bridge. With The Truth Is... (2011) and Savages (2014) they retained their rock core while broadening their sound. The clearest shift came with Wake Up Call in 2017, recorded with Martin Terefe, when the band briefly shortened its name to Theory and adopted a more pop-rock approach. Say Nothing (2020) continued that evolution with lyrics more focused on social issues, before a return to a heavier sound on Dinosaur in 2023.
