Puggy
Based in Brussels, the trio Puggy brings together British musician Matthew Irons, Frenchman Romain Descampe and Swede Egil “Ziggy” Franzén around a melodic pop‑rock sound nourished by folk and Anglo‑Saxon influences. Formed in the mid‑2000s, Puggy first attracted attention on Belgium’s small stages before touring widely across Europe, particularly in France and neighboring countries, with a guitar‑bass‑drums lineup focused on Irons’s voice and carefully worked vocal harmonies. The band released their debut album, “Dubois Died Today” (2007), which established a sound blending acoustic ballads and more electric songs, then honed their songwriting on “Something You Might Like” (2010), noted for more direct choruses and a production geared toward live performance. With “To Win the World” (2013) and “Colours” (2016), Puggy further expanded their palette by incorporating more pop textures, stronger rhythms and a taste for contrasting arrangements. Regularly appearing at festivals and on club and hall tours, Puggy fits within an international pop tradition while remaining connected to the Belgian independent scene and to a band‑based working method that balances collective composition with a recognizable vocal identity.
