Nicky Romero

Born in 1989 in Amerongen, the Netherlands, Nicky Romero, whose real name is Nick Rotteveel, built a career as a DJ and producer within the Dutch EDM scene before achieving international success. Initially active in the late 2000s with remixes and electro- and progressive-house singles, he gained prominence in the early 2010s with tracks like “Toulouse” and his collaboration with Avicii on “I Could Be the One”, which firmly established his name on major electronic stages. His style blends melodic progressive house, pop-style vocal structures and big-room energy, with an emphasis on formats suited to both clubs and large festivals. Alongside his production work, he founded the label Protocol Recordings in 2012, based in the Netherlands, which became a platform for his own releases and those of other house and EDM producers, and he presents the radio show Protocol Radio, broadcast in multiple countries. Over the years he has expanded collaborations with international dance and pop artists and explored darker, more underground sounds—particularly under his alias Monocule—while remaining firmly rooted in mainstream electronic music.
