Nekrogoblikon

Founded in 2006 in Santa Barbara, California, Nekrogoblikon has built a melodic metal universe centered on the figure of the goblin, blending death metal, metalcore influences, power metal flourishes, and passages that lean toward pop and electronic music. After relocating to Los Angeles, the band gradually shaped its identity around Nicky Calonne on vocals and keyboards, a prominent twin-guitar attack, and the onstage mascot John Goblikon, who embodies the project’s comic and absurd streak. Nekrogoblikon self-released its debut album, 'Goblin Island', in 2007, laying out a detailed fictional world, followed by 'Stench' in 2011 and the 'Power' EP in 2013, where the band heightened the contrast between rhythmic brutality, catchy choruses, and humorous storytelling. With 'Heavy Meta' (2015) and then 'Welcome to Bonkers' (2018), Nekrogoblikon refined a denser sound marked by pronounced melodic arrangements and a prominent role for keyboards, while the music videos helped cement a B-movie-inspired visual aesthetic. The 2022 album 'The Fundamental Slimes and Humours' continues in this vein, combining rapid-fire riffs, screamed vocals, and more melodic singing, confirming Nekrogoblikon’s standing on North American and European metal stages at the crossroads of extreme metal and comedy.
