Allegaeon
Born in Fort Collins, Colorado, Allegaeon has been producing technical death metal since 2008, combining highly crafted melodies, progressive touches and a strong emphasis on guitar construction. Now a quintet, the band emerged on the American metal scene in the late 2000s and has since released a series of albums that chart its evolution: Fragments of Form and Function (2010), Formshifter (2012), Elements of the Infinite (2014), Proponent for Sentience (2016), Apoptosis (2019) and Damnum (2022). Across these records Allegaeon’s writing shifts between death metal brutality, rhythmic precision, more atmospheric passages and melodic lines drawn from modern extreme metal. The band’s trajectory has also been marked by vocal changes, including the return of Ezra Haynes in 2022 after the period fronted by Riley McShane. A regular presence on North American and European tours, Allegaeon moves between death metal, technical metal and progressive metal stages while retaining an identity centered on the virtuosity of its arrangements and dense songwriting often informed by scientific and existential themes.
