Mykki Blanco
Born in Orange County, California and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, Mykki Blanco built a career at the crossroads of rap, performance and poetry before gaining attention on the New York scene in the early 2010s. Drawing on experimental hip‑hop, alternative rap and influences from noise, punk and electronic music, Mykki Blanco’s work mixes abrasive and atmospheric productions, shifting flows and spoken word, with lyrics addressing gender identity, sexuality, personal vulnerabilities and queer experience. The mixtape “Cosmic Angel: The Illuminati Prince/ss” (2012) and the EP “Betty Rubble: The Initiation” (2013) embedded Mykki Blanco in a network of clubs, artist squats and international festivals, while “Gay Dog Food” (2014) further broadened this experimental terrain. The first studio album “Mykki” was released in 2016, followed by “Broken Hearts & Beauty Sleep” (2021) and “Stay Close to Music” (2022), which develop a more melodic atmosphere informed by soul, pop and ambient. Across releases and live shows, Mykki Blanco has pursued numerous collaborations with producers and musicians from hip‑hop as well as electronic and indie scenes, consolidating a distinctive position between club culture, alternative rap and performance art.
