Sofie Royer

Born in California in 1991 to Iranian and Austrian parents, Sofie Royer trained in violin and viola at the Vienna Conservatory before developing a career that spans Vienna, New York, London and Los Angeles. Her music sits between pop and synth-pop, with melodic songwriting that blends accessible formats, off-kilter tonalities and references to visual culture as well as Viennese stage traditions. Before her solo records she worked at Boiler Room in creative direction and development, was a resident on NTS Radio, and collaborated with the label Stones Throw, where she also released the compilation Sofie’s SOS Tape in 2016. She later released the albums Cult Survivor (2020), Harlequin (2022) and Young-Girl Forever (2024), three records that extend a pop that is at once stylized, intimate and threaded with European and American influences. Her career also includes collaborations with MISS WORLD, Onoe Caponoe and Speckman, and an appearance on Toro y Moi’s album Mahal in 2022. Alongside music, Sofie Royer has developed a practice in the visual arts and pursued studies in philosophy, psychology and English in Vienna.
