Jessy Lanza

Born in Hamilton, Ontario, Jessy Lanza develops electronic pop at the crossroads of contemporary R&B, synthpop and club music, with concise writing, airy vocals and rhythms often minimalist. Trained in classical and jazz piano at Montreal’s Concordia University, she first worked as a music teacher before launching her solo project at the turn of the 2010s. Jessy Lanza made her mark with Pull My Hair Back in 2013, co-produced with Jeremy Greenspan of Junior Boys and released by the London label Hyperdub, an important frame for understanding her anchoring between electronic songwriting and dance culture. She continues in this direction on Oh No in 2016, then All the Time in 2020, where her approach becomes more direct, more mobile, incorporating more house, freestyle and electro-pop references. In 2021, she signs DJ-Kicks: Jessy Lanza, before releasing Love Hallucination in 2023. Throughout her career, Jessy Lanza has also collaborated with Caribou and Morgan Geist, while moving on stages that connect experimental pop, indie electronic and club music. In Jessy Lanza’s work, tracks often progress by overlaying fine melodic lines, supple basslines and dry percussion, balancing vocal intimacy with rhythmic efficiency.
