BEA1991

Based between Amsterdam and London, BEA1991 develops a hybrid practice in which experimental pop songwriting, vocal research and a visual universe respond to one another. The Dutch artist, born in 1991, emerged in the early 2010s with tracks released online and later refined her sonic identity across deconstructed RnB, minimal electronics, slow ballads and near-ambient textures. A first recorded milestone arrived with the EP “Good Thinking” in 2014, establishing BEA1991 in a register of introspective songs with flexible structures, followed by the full-lengths “Brand New Adult” (2019) and “The Inside” (2023), where hushed guitars, subtle synth layers and prominent vocal harmonies intertwine. BEA1991 has occasionally collaborated with Dev Hynes/Blood Orange, both in studio and on stage, and moves between club shows, more intimate settings and contemporary art spaces, extending the same attention to detail found in her compositions to her videos and visual projects. Through these releases and tours across Europe and North America, BEA1991 has affirmed a songwriting approach of pared-back melodies, often fragmentary lyrics and arrangements that blur the line between pop song and atmospheric music.
