Laidback Luke

Born in Manila as Lucas Cornelis van Scheppingen and raised in Hoofddorp, the Netherlands, Laidback Luke has built since the early 1990s a career rooted in house and its offshoots, including electro house, progressive house, Dutch house, techno and bloghouse influences. Initially associated with the Dutch club scene, he released the albums Psyched Up (1998) and Electronic Satisfaction (2002), which reveal a tense sound focused on rhythmic impact and floor-oriented structures. Over the 2000s he gained international visibility through remixes — notably a rework of “Crescendolls” for Daft Club — and collaborations that placed him at the crossroads of the European underground and the wider house world, particularly with Steve Angello on “Show Me Love” and later with Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello on “Leave the World Behind.” Founder of the Mixmash Records label, Laidback Luke also acted as a bridge within the electronic scene. In the 2010s his repertoire opened to a more upfront EDM, illustrated by “Turbulence” with Steve Aoki and Lil Jon, while he continued to perform at both festivals and clubs from Ibiza to Tomorrowland and Ultra. His 2015 album Focus extended this trajectory between house efficiency and tighter production.
