Imany

Born in 1979 in Martigues to a family of Comorian origin, Imany first made her name as a model between France and the United States before turning to music. After spending some time in New York, she began singing on small stages and developed a repertoire combining soul, folk and acoustic pop, carried by a deep voice and an intimate register. Back in Paris, Imany gradually built her career as a singer and released the 2011 album The Shape of a Broken Heart, which established her world of understated ballads and English-language compositions. She later contributed to film soundtracks, notably for the feature film “Sous les jupes des filles” in 2014, where her song Don't Be So Shy was widely covered. In 2016 she deepened her writing with The Wrong Kind of War, featuring fuller arrangements while remaining focused on voice and guitar. Alongside her European tours, she has publicly campaigned on health issues, particularly endometriosis. With Voodoo Cello in 2021 Imany presented a covers project in which her voice converses with a cello ensemble, confirming her taste for pared-back formats and soulful reinterpretations of international pop.
