Icona Pop

Formed in Stockholm in 2009, Icona Pop brings together singers and songwriters Caroline Hjelt and Aino Jawo around a club-minded electropop and dance-pop sound, built on instant hooks, uptempo rhythms, and an energy that brushes up against a punk aesthetic. The duo first drew attention in Sweden in the early 2010s with the singles “Manners” and “Nights Like This,” before making an international breakthrough in 2012 with “I Love It,” co-written and performed with Charli XCX, which cemented their presence on the global pop and electronic scenes. Their self-titled debut arrived in 2012 in the Swedish market, followed in 2013 by This Is… Icona Pop, a set that gathers their most prominent tracks and confirms a decidedly club-focused direction. Across tours and festivals, Icona Pop has collaborated widely with producers and DJs from the EDM and electronic-pop world, regularly weaving these features into their sets, balancing vocal performance with a DJ-like approach. After a run of singles and EPs throughout the 2010s, the duo returned to the album format in 2023 with Club Romantech, extending a style centered on immediate melodies, chant-like choruses, and songwriting that plays on the tension between collective euphoria and tales of urban nights.
