The Black Eyed Peas
Formed in Los Angeles in the mid‑1990s around will.i.am, apl.de.ap and later Taboo, The Black Eyed Peas evolved from an alternative hip‑hop outfit into an internationally successful pop‑rap and dance act. Initially active on the West Coast rap scene with albums like Behind the Front (1998) and Bridging the Gap (2000), the group reached a wider audience when Fergie joined ahead of Elephunk (2003), which featured songs such as “Where Is the Love?”. Monkey Business (2005) continued to blend hip‑hop, R&B and pop, while The E.N.D. (2009) and The Beginning (2010) pushed further toward electronic, dance and club sounds. After a quieter period, the band returned as a trio with Masters of the Sun Vol. 1 (2018), revisiting its rap roots, followed by Translation (2020) and Elevation (2022), which incorporate Latin and reggaeton influences more systematically. Prominent on tours and at festivals, The Black Eyed Peas have built an identity based on genre fusion, strong sung choruses and vocal collaborations, while remaining anchored in the creative core of will.i.am, apl.de.ap and Taboo.
