The Barr Brothers
The Barr Brothers, founded by brothers Brad and Andrew Barr after relocating to Montreal, have established themselves as one of North America's most distinctive bands on the modern folk and indie scene. Their world is marked by a deeply artisanal, organic approach: inventive guitar, drums with subtle textures, Sarah Pagé's hypnotic harp (featured on their early records), and a constant taste for sonic exploration. Their self-titled debut (2011) revealed a dreamy folk blended with blues and minimalist touches. Sleeping Operator (2014), often considered one of their major works, pushed further the fusion of folk, rock, African percussion and atmospheric arrangements. With Queens of the Breakers (2017), the band delivered a broader, more melodic and luminous album, praised for its emotional depth. Known for intense, meticulously crafted live performances, The Barr Brothers have spent more than a decade shaping music that balances ancestral tenderness, delicate experimentation and poetic storytelling.
