Deaf Havana

Formed in 2005 between Hunstanton and King’s Lynn in Norfolk, Deaf Havana initially belonged to the British post-hardcore scene, with a taut sound, nervy guitars and a mix of clean singing and screams from the original lineup. After the EP It's Called the Easy Life (2008) and their debut album Meet Me Halfway, at Least (2009), the band's songwriting evolved following Ryan Mellor’s departure in 2010: around James Veck-Gilodi, Deaf Havana moved toward more melodic alternative rock, with folk-rock accents, more open choruses and more introspective lyrics. That transition is reflected on Fools and Worthless Liars (2011) and Old Souls (2013), and continued with All These Countless Nights (2017) and Rituals (2018), which sustain a balance between rock energy, broader arrangements and pop-oriented songwriting. Long organized as a full band, Deaf Havana went through several lineup changes, notably involving Chris Pennells, Lee Wilson and Tom Ogden. Since 2021 Deaf Havana has continued as a duo of brothers James and Matthew Veck-Gilodi, in which configuration The Present Is a Foreign Land was released in 2022. In 2025 Deaf Havana added the album We're Never Getting Out to their discography, continuing a trajectory that began in the English alternative scene and gradually shifted toward a more direct and personal approach.
