AS IT IS

Based in Brighton, England, the pop punk/emo band As It Is was originally formed around American singer Patty Walters and several British musicians, focusing on melodic songwriting inspired by the early-2000s melodic punk scene. Formed in 2012, As It Is drew attention with self-released EPs before signing to Fearless Records and releasing their debut album Never Happy, Ever After in 2015, noted for catchy choruses and themes of doubt and relationships. Their second album, okay. (2017), deepened that pop-punk vein while incorporating more emo and alternative rock influences. With The Great Depression (2018), As It Is shifted toward a darker concept centered on mental health, introducing post-hardcore elements and a more theatrical vocal approach. After several lineup changes, the band refocused around Patty Walters, guitarist Ronnie Ish and bassist Alistair Testo, continuing to perform across the UK, Europe and North America. The 2022 album I Went To Hell And Back continues this blend of pop punk, emo and alternative rock, balancing faster tracks, heavier passages and songs driven by Walters’ prominently featured voice.
