Fatherson
Formed in 2010 in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland, Fatherson occupies a space between alternative rock and indie rock, with a melodic, taut and direct sound led by Ross Leighton’s voice and guitar, Marc Strain’s bass and Greg Walkinshaw’s drums. First noticed on the Scottish scene with the EPs Where the Water Meets the Land (2010) and Hometown (2011), Fatherson gained visibility after a stint with BBC Introducing and appearances on UK festival stages such as T in the Park. The trio then developed their career on the road, touring alongside bands like Biffy Clyro, Frightened Rabbit, Twin Atlantic, Feeder, Enter Shikari and Idlewild. Fatherson’s discography has been built steadily with I Am an Island (2014), Open Book (2016), Sum Of All Your Parts (2018) and Normal Fears (2022). Across these records they refined a guitar-centered songwriting approach, restrained choruses and an emotional intensity that remains rooted in an accessible rock format while retaining an indie aesthetic.
