Peter Bjorn and John
Formed in Stockholm in the late 1990s, Peter Bjorn and John brings together Peter Morén, Björn Yttling and John Eriksson around a melodic indie pop/rock defined by bright guitars, prominent bass lines and a clear taste for group-sung choruses. The trio made a name for itself on the Swedish scene with a self-titled debut in 2002, followed by Falling Out in 2004, still firmly rooted in a power-pop aesthetic. With Writer’s Block in 2006, Peter Bjorn and John honed a more minimal, repetitive sound, propelled in particular by the single “Young Folks,” recorded with singer Victoria Bergsman, which opened the group up to an international audience. Subsequent records, from Seaside Rock (2008) and Living Thing (2009) to Gimme Some (2011), in turn explored a more instrumental, more electronic or more direct side. Firmly established on the European and North American indie circuit, Peter Bjorn and John continued this evolution with Breakin’ Point (2016), Darker Days (2018) and Endless Dream (2020), while maintaining accessible pop songwriting and arrangements regularly crafted in the studio by Yttling.
