John Newman

Born in Settle, North Yorkshire, John Newman trained between the north of England, Leeds and then London, with a musical heritage nourished by soul, Motown, northern soul and contemporary British pop. His taut, immediate voice first made an impact in the early 2010s through collaborations with Rudimental, notably on “Feel the Love” and “Not Giving In”, before John Newman developed a solo path that blends soul-pop, dance and mainstream electronic music. His debut album, Tribute (2013), established a songwriting style centered on incisive hooks, brass arrangements and expressive vocals, in the vein of modernized soul-pop; it was followed by Revolve (2015), which pushed further toward dance-oriented productions. Alongside his records, John Newman has multiplied collaborations with artists from the pop and electronic scenes, particularly Calvin Harris on “Blame”, and has performed both on festival stages and in club or radio formats. Since the second half of the 2010s, John Newman has continued this dialogue between soul songwriting, studio pop and electronic music, dividing his activity between singing, writing, production and DJ sets.
