Electric Six

Formed in Detroit in 1996, initially under the name The Wildbunch before adopting Electric Six, the band is part of the city's rock scene while developing an idiosyncratic blend of alternative rock, funk rock, garage rock, hard rock, new wave and disco. Electric Six came to prominence in the early 2000s with the singles "Danger! High Voltage" and "Gay Bar," and with the album Fire in 2003, which crystallized their taste for incisive choruses, danceable rhythms and deliberately offbeat humour. Led from the start by Dick Valentine— the only constant member despite numerous lineup changes—Electric Six functions as a stage-focused group with shifting identities, writing songs that centre on the collision of rock energy, synthetic grooves and pop references. Their discography continues in this vein with Señor Smoke (2005), Switzerland (2006) and a steady succession of albums up to Turquoise (2023). A regular touring act in North America and Europe, Electric Six has also crossed paths with other artists, notably Jack White on "Danger! High Voltage," while maintaining an intentionally unstable aesthetic between satire, glam, rock tension and club pulse.
