The Dandy Warhols
Born in Portland, Oregon, The Dandy Warhols formed in 1994 around Courtney Taylor-Taylor, Peter Holmström, Zia McCabe and, from the late 1990s, Brent DeBoer. The band initially fit into American alternative rock with a sound blending garage rock, psychedelic pop, shoegaze and power-pop melodies, before incorporating more electronic textures and a more synthetic songwriting approach. After Dandys Rule OK? (1995), The Dandy Warhols refined their formula on ...The Dandy Warhols Come Down (1997), then broadened their audience with Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia (2000), an album combining nervy riffs, psychedelic atmospheres and oblique pop. Welcome to the Monkey House (2003) marked a turn toward electro and new wave, while subsequent records, including Odditorium or Warlords of Mars (2005), ...Earth to The Dandy Warhols... (2008), This Machine (2012), Distortland (2016), Why You So Crazy (2019) and Rockmaker (2024), show a flexible trajectory between hazy rock, melodic songwriting and drier experiments. Associated with the alternative scene of the 1990s and regularly active on venue and festival circuits, The Dandy Warhols also had their story documented in Dig!, which focuses on their ties and tensions with The Brian Jonestown Massacre.
