Scissor Sisters

Born out of New York's queer nightlife in the early 2000s, Scissor Sisters initially brought together Jake Shears and Babydaddy before expanding to include Ana Matronic, Del Marquis and Paddy Boom. The band developed a pop-rock sound heavily influenced by glam, disco, nu-disco and electroclash, with songs that blend catchy choruses, theatricality, club energy and references to New York's LGBT culture. After starting out in Lower East Side clubs, Scissor Sisters gained attention with their cover of "Comfortably Numb" and with their 2004 debut album Scissor Sisters. They continued to explore stylistic crossovers on Ta-Dah (2006), which featured Elton John on "I Don’t Feel Like Dancin'", and on Night Work (2010), a more dancefloor-oriented record produced with Stuart Price. Magic Hour was released in 2012, the same year the band announced a hiatus. In the meantime they played venues, festivals and major tours, including Coachella and Fuji Rock, and opened for U2, Depeche Mode and Lady Gaga. The band resumed activities in 2024 as a trio consisting of Jake Shears, Babydaddy and Del Marquis; Ana Matronic did not take part in that reformation.
