Wolfmother
Formed in Sydney in the early 2000s around singer and guitarist Andrew Stockdale, Wolfmother develop a heavy, melodic brand of rock that draws on 1970s hard rock and psychedelia, with massive riffs, occasionally retro keyboards, and a prominent high-pitched vocal. The original trio made a name for themselves on the Australian scene with a self-titled EP in 2004, before releasing the album Wolfmother in 2005, which put the band on the international circuit. After founding members Chris Ross and Myles Heskett left in 2008, Wolfmother carried on around Stockdale with a revamped lineup and issued Cosmic Egg in 2009, marked by a bigger sound and more expansive song structures. Following a hiatus during which Andrew Stockdale released a record under his own name, the Wolfmother project resurfaced with New Crown in 2014, self-released online, then with Victorious in 2016, which tightened the writing around more direct rock formats. On stage, Wolfmother alternate between headlining tours and opening slots for other rock acts, maintaining a steady presence in Australia, Europe, and North America while cementing the band’s identity as a group centered on live energy and a guitar-driven sound.
